Homework:
FFPC 2 ACE # 30 a-f and 31-33
Finish the first two questions on the pick-up, FFPC 2.5 Warm-Up

  • reminder:
quiz Friday
test Monday or Tuesday

Warm-Up:
1. If 0.4% is the growth rate, find the growth factor.

2. Write the standard form of the exponentail function.
*try to lable what each term is

3. Put the factored form into expanded:
(3x-4) (x-5)

Last Nights Homework:

  • don't forget your key!

FFPC 2 ACE # 21:
B.
FF EF
(x+5)(x+5) OR (x+5)^2 = x(x+5) + 5(x+5)
= x^2 + 5x + 25
= x^2 +10x + 25

C.
To find the points you could use a graphing calculator. Go to the Y= and enter in your equation, then go to the table to find your points. If a graphing calculator isn't available, you could substitute in points for x. Don't forget to lable the required elements on your graph.

This is what the graph should look like:

FFPC 2 ACE # 29 B:

x^2 + 3x + 4x + 12 EF
(x^2 + 3x) + (4x + 12)
x ( x + 3) + 4 ( x + 3)
( x + 4) ( x + 3 ) FF

x^2 + 7x + 10 EF
x^2 + 5x + 2x + 10
( x^2 + 5x ) + ( 2x + 10)
x ( x + 5) + 2 ( x + 5)
( x + 2 ) ( x + 5) FF

  • don't forget your product sum table
Investigation 2.4:
E.5)
x^2 - 8x + 15
x^2 - 5x - 3x + 15
( x^2 - 5x) + ( - 3x + 15)
x ( x - 5) + -3 ( x - 5)
( x - 3) ( x - 5)
  • make sure to put the final step in high school form
  • don't forget your product sum table

E.6)
x^2 - 12x + 36
x^ 2 - 6x - 6x + 36
( x ^ 2 - 6x) + ( - 6x + 36)
x ( x - 6) + -6 ( x - 6)
( x - 6) ( x - 6) OR (x - 6) ^ 2
  • don't forget your product sum table

Specail Cases:
Difference of Squares:
9 x^2 - 49
  • all perfect squares
  • 9: 3*3
  • x^2: x*x
  • 49: 7*7
  • 9x^2 - 49 ( subtracting)

Perfect Square Trinomial:
example #1:
x^2 + 10x + 25
  • 5+5 = 10 (10x)
  • 5*5= 25
(x+5)^2

example # 2:
x^2 - 12x + 36
  • 6+6= 12 (12x)
  • 6*6= 36
(x-6) ^ 2

  • the difference between these two examples of perfect square trinomials are that the first example is adding the first two terms, but the second example is subtracting the first two terms. Subtraction is not addition!
